The Roadless Path

The Roadless PathPathway-Choice.jpg

David Livingstone was a pioneering missionary doctor in Africa.

As his work gained international renown, the directors of his missionary society wrote to him, offering reinforcements. They noted that since he had charted a "good road" to his current location, they were ready to send other doctors to join him. Livingstone’s reply was blunt and legendary:

"If you have men who will come only because they know there is a good road, I don't want them. I want men who will come even if they know there is no road at all."

In today’s world, we find it increasingly difficult to make commitments that truly embrace "for better or for worse," especially the "worse" part. Often, the very first crisis or hardship becomes an insurmountable barrier because discomfort was never part of our original plan. It is a strange paradox: while we all know deep down that life without problems is a statistical impossibility, we still act surprised when the road disappears. True character and lasting relationships are built not by those who wait for a paved path, but by those willing to keep moving when the trail ends.

"I will go anywhere, provided it be forward." - David Livingstone
